Manitoba Parks Free for Parks Canada Day

In honour of Canada's Parks Day on July 21 all Manitoba provincial parks will offer free entry this weekend.

“Thousands of people mark Canada’s Parks Day every year by taking part in fun, educational, family-orientated events in parks and historic sites across the country,” said Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship Minister Gord Mackintosh this morning. “To help families celebrate, entry to all provincial parks will be free this weekend and a number of interesting events will be held in parks around the province.” [original news release]

The open weekend may come as welcome news to Manitobans after the province's reinstatement of park fees for the first time in three years.  Those planning to get out can check out the Canada's Parks Day website for a full list of events taking place across the province.  Activities include:

  • A bike and wagon parade through Clearwater Lake Provincial Park - decorate your own bike or wagon!
  • Bake bannock and learn about the voyageurs at Grand Beach Provincial Park
  • Learn about park history at Bird's Hill Provincial Park
  • Join in the BBQ, prizes and games at Grass River Provincial Park

Add to this a gorgeous weather forecast, and you've got a perfect weekend to check out the great parks our province has to offer.  Just don't forget your sunscreen!
